More than 800 homes could be added to new Leicestershire estate
Hundreds more homes are on the cards for a new growing Leicestershire community. Early plans have been unveiled for an extension to New Lubbesthorpe scheme, near Leicester Forest East.
Named “West Lubbesthorpe” in planning documents, the latest proposals could see up to 825 additional homes built on farmland next to the current ongoing development. These would be a mix of market and “affordable” housing, and homes for the elderly, documents indicate.
A new local centre, with shopping and community uses, and a primary school are also suggested for the site. The scheme is in the very early stages, with no planning application yet submitted to Blaby District Council’s (BDC) planning portal and, as such, few details of the potential project are publicly available.
The developer’s intentions for the site were revealed after it asked planning officers what it would need to include in its Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) when it puts in an application for permission to build on the land. An EIA sets out whether a proposed project is likely to have significant effects on the environment, and if it does, what can be done to mitigate them.
If the project is taken forward by developer Hallam Land, the new homes would be spread across around 45 hectares of land between Beggars Lane and Desford Road. Access points are expected to be off these two roads.
